An Update From Christine C!
28 January 2020 – Patient Stories
I’m feeling really great, still pain free! November 2019 marked 6 years since my last surgery. Since treatment and successfully getting my pain under control, endo isn’t something I think of except when it’s time to schedule another injection. I am very lucky. Before coming to RAD it was at the forefront of my mind all the time because of the pain. Now, endo is just a small blip on my day-to-day radar.

Christine and her husband, Herman, (along with their pups Domino & Nugget) have continued their adventures, crossing off multiple items on their bucket list together! One of the most important things Christine has learned is the importance of making meaningful memories that will last a lifetime.
Thanks to continued freedom from pain, I’ve accomplished so much since my last update – this year will be 5 years of marriage for my husband, Herman, and I! We love spending time with our 2 dogs, Domino and Nugget, and our 4 cats. We’ve also started leading our youth group at the church we attend – we love working with the teenagers! I’ve kicked up my running training- completed my first 10k race last spring, my first half marathon this past fall, and am on my way to my first marathon this spring. I took a “cousins trip” out to California this past fall and got to see the Pacific Oceans and the Redwood trees! I also knocked another item off my bucket list last year- I had the opportunity to cuddle and play with penguins at the zoo!

Christine, a huge animal lover, finally got the chance to play with penguines!
In November/December 2018, we took another memorable trip to Disney World with my family and some close family friends. This particular trip was my favorite vacation I’ve taken in my life! Herman and I made some unique memories as a couple, and my family made some wonderful memories together. This trip proved invaluable, as my younger middle brother unexpectedly passed in September 2019. Having that Disney trip was worth everything in the days since losing him, and I now choose even more than before to take the time to make meaningful memories.

Christine notes that her trip to Disney was worth everything and describes the trip as one of the most meaningful experiences she had with her brother.
In Spring 2019 we scratched off state #11, North Carolina off of our 50 states bucket list! This past November we scratched off #12, New York. We visited Rochester and Niagara Falls, I even got to play with a seal at an aquarium! Just recently we scratched off #13, Tennessee, we did this trip with my family. We visited Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, where we explored a ton of attractions and did some hiking to see the mountains!
My first marathon is in Salisbury, MD this spring. I always get a sense of accomplishment from running, whether it’s that I ran a longer mile than I ran before, ran a longer distance than before, or just that I completed a run even though I made every excuse in the book not to! For me, running is all about challenging myself to do things I never thought I could. Running has also been instrumental in grieving for my brother. He was always one of my biggest cheerleaders, and was super proud of my accomplishments. I have found that every time I want to quit running and just say “I got far enough, I’ll stop, I accomplished enough,” I always seem to find a “Penny from Heaven,” and I get an instant reminder that I’m not done running yet.
This is the biggest mountain I’ve had to climb so far in my running journey, but I know the view from the peak is going to be beautiful!
